Library Essentials for COA Faculty: Home

Course Reserves

Generally, CoA Faculty use up to three kinds of reserves:

GRC Reserves
Only circulating items from the GRC's collection can be placed on reserve; please submit reserve requests at least a week prior to classes beginning. Faculty should email class reserve lists for circulating items in the GRC's collection to Kim Soss (soss@iit.edu and msill@iit.edu). Please allow up to two business days for these items to be pulled and updated in the catalog before your students will need them on the shelves.

Galvin Reserves
Book reserves from Galvin's collections must be reserved using their online request form

E-Reserves
E-Reserves should be uploaded via BlackBoard; more information available here: http://library.iit.edu/faculty/services/new-faculty.

Getting Started

Set up an IIT Libraries account
Your library account is generated when you receive an IIT email address and ID card. If you have those, but can't log in, send an email to Kim (soss@iit.edu). Library database access, I-Share, and ILL are all accessed through Single Sign On (your myIIT portal credentials).

Access I-Share for books and media from outside institutions
Circulating materials can be borrowed through I-Share, an online catalog that allows 24/7 access to the print collections of more than 80 academic libraries. Digital materials, such as E-books, can't be borrowed from other consortium members. Sign in with your IIT credentials on the upper right of the catalog:

Access ILL for articles from outside institutions
ILL provides scans of print journals from other institutions. When using a database such as Avery Index, you'll need to log in using IIT credentials before requesting articles.

Teaching Assistants Your TA can check out books or submit reserves on your behalf. To create a proxy account for your TA, visit Galvin Library Circulation, or email circdesk@iit.edu. Galvin Library offers a guide for Teaching Assistants here.

Library Instruction

The GRC offers instruction for individuals and groups. Instruction is tailored to  to need, from nuts and bolts to complex issues such as intellectual property. Some research resources are poorly designed and counterintuitive, and the library is here to guide users through. Please contact Kim  to arrange assistance for a student, a class, or yourself: soss@iit.edu.
