Library Search User Guide

Learn how to get the most out of the library's search feature

Basic Search

A basic search searches multiple library platforms simultaneously. One search will encompass many materials including:

  • Books (including e-books)

  • Journals (including e-journals)

  • Articles

  • DVDs and streaming video

  • Special Collections

  • Newspapers
     

To perform a basic search, type your keywords into the search box. The search box will automatically fill with suggestions based on what you type. To execute the search, press the or the enter key.

 

Understanding Search Results

Once your search has been executed, your results will appear. The type of resource will appear at the top of each search result. Notice the "peer reviewed" demarcation at the bottom of each entry.

 

Narrow Search Results

You can narrow your results with the filters on the right. 

Understanding a Catalog Entry

When you select an item, you will reach a screen similar to the following. To request the item, simply login with your IIT credentials, if the item is available electronically, the appropriate link will appear. This item view also lists the location, status, and other details about the item.
