Research Tutorial for Distance Learners: Library Services

Borrowing Materials

Please check here for loan periods and borrowing limits.

IIT students who reside within the state of Illinois, but cannot visit campus for library services, should use the nearest I-Share institution to borrow returnable items.

Students who reside outside the state of Illinois, should first use the Illinois Tech Library Search to search the catalog for their book. If Galvin or one of our branch libraries own the item, we will ship it to you at no charge. Return shipping costs of materials are the responsibility of the borrower. When requesting a book, please indicate in the Notes field that you are a distance education student.

Returning Borrowed Materials

Items borrowed from IIT or any I-Share Library can be returned at any IIT circulation desk or any I-Share Library.

Items purchased and sent directly to you through our distance learners' services, should be returned directly to Galvin Library. Because the borrower is responsible for the item until it is safely in our hands, we strongly suggest that items be returned via USPS or UPS with insurance and a tracking number. Replacement fees for items not received by IIT Libraries will be charged to your student account. Please return items to:

Paul V. Galvin Library - IIT
