Ethics Resources for IPRO Teams: Working with Communities

This is a resource guide for IPRO teams interested in looking at the ethical issues inherent in their project topics.

Working with Communities

In IPROs that involve collaboration between IIT students and community organizations, ethical issues can often arise. Resolving these ethical issues can be especially important when a project involves working with underserved populations (such as individuals living in poor communities or developing nations), or vulnerable populations (such as children, or individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities).

Example Case Studies

These case studies explore some ethical issues that can arise when working with communities and underprivileged populations, including issues of informed consent and the ability of community members to refuse to participate with all or parts of a study.
